retirement planning
Face getting older head on and use it as an opportunity to start retirement planning.

You never know when, but it’s really just a matter of time. Some people experience it when they realize they haven’t had to show an ID at the supermarket. For me, it was when my 3 year old asked me if I was old.  Despite the initial deer in the headlights reaction, I managed to answer “Well, I’m older than you, but there are a lot of people that are older than me.” Unimpressed, he answered “but you’re old, right?” I was defeated and admitted that yes, I was old. It was at that moment I realized I’m no longer a young man. I’m officially a grownup, and I’m not getting any younger.

I should have recognized some of the other clues that my youth had become a distant memory when I caught myself asking “Why am sore this morning, I didn’t workout yesterday. Who took all of my antacids? Oh that was me. Who left the radio on the easy listening station? Oops, that was me too.”

If you have found yourself asking any of those questions, don’t panic like I did. While the fact that you’re old snuck up on you like a navy seal in the dead of night, don’t be a sissy, face it head on! Channel this experience into a positive force. Let it spur you into action whether it’s making the decision to finally get fit or getting your finances in order. It’s never too late to do either of those, and you can always be doing more.
